Monday - arrive Metz, learn we cannot drop the rental car in Germany. Change plans and train to Ramstein instead of leisurely drive.
Tuesday - spend the day waiting for flight to the States. Intuit that the flight will he pushed back two days and decide to skip the Wednesday roll call and enjoy exploring Verdun.
Wednesday - we explore and enjoy. Rest of flight spends day at airport, only to be told flight delayed to Thursday. Pilot intuition pays off. Enjoy wine and cheese dinner.
Thursday - get back on flight. Flight is a go! Book rental car for arrival at Dover. Land. Discover there are no rental cars to be had within 45 miles of the base. Spend night, are told a car will be ready at 10:30a.
Friday - Wake up at 6:30 to get moving and resume the car search. Enterprise now has no car. No other cars anywhere in Delaware. Anywhere. Book car service to drive us to McGuire. Flooding makes the 2 hour wait a 3 hour wait. Driver picks us up. Driver discovers driving through puddles has flooded engine. Pull over to wait an hour for Driver 2 to arrive. Drive second hour to McGuire. Arrive McGuire, find there are concrete barricades at the exits of the lot we were told to park in. Hysterical laughter from Mom. Drive over grass to escape. Now in rush hour traffic, so 2 hour drive takes 3.5. Arrive home at 7p.
