Like so much this year, the 4th didn't feel like the 4th normally does. So we capitalized on the chance to relax over a long weekend, celebrated not being stuck in traffic coming home post-fireworks, and enjoyed lots of family time together.
As usual, Max spent a lot of time wondering aloud what Piper would think/say/do in various situations. We took Piper for a couple of loooong hikes in the woods, which both dog and boy enjoyed very much. We saw two deer with antlers on our Saturday afternoon walk.
Evelyn decided to do some chores to earn money for Minecraft worlds. For $2.50, she worked hard to scrub the grime off of the driveway fence. As she said, for MONEY, she's definitely going to do her best work!
The kids have convinced us that walking to Baskin Robbins is our new Friday night tradition. So Friday after dinner, we grabbed our masks and walked up to B&R. Deliciously cold on a very hot night. Perfect new tradition!
We've all been taking advantage of time on the porch to read and relax of late.
Which is great, because yesterday we inherited Nancy Carson's glider. Nancy got the glider from Anne Shine, whose parents found it on the porch when they bought their house on Rosemont in 1934. It's made of pre-WWI steel and was refinished by Nancy when Anne gifted it to her 10 years ago. We are so excited to have a comfy, relaxing place to rock on the porch, and are doubly glad to have inherited it from two of the strongest, kindest women we know.
And of course, we started the weekend by celebrating our 13th anniversary. It seemed a little on the nose to hit 13 in 2020, but sometimes you just have to laugh. And love. And marvel at how fast 13 years goes!
