Growing up

Yesterday it was clear that Max has crossed from little kid to big kid. He stayed inside reading rather than playing outside with Evelyn and the boys next door, even passing on bubbles and ice cream cones. During our barbecue he sat to the side and watched the other kids run like maniacs, joining in only occasionally for a good play. Then at dinner, he sat at the grown up table instead of with the other kids (Evelyn's age) on the kid blanket. He made conversation with us and joined in very appropriately. It was a stark contrast to the last barbecue we had six weeks ago, and a big reminder that he is growing up and there's nothing we can do to stop it.
