Max's First Scholarship
Max applied for his first scholarship today, to cover part of the cost of his CTY camp this summer. Here are his essays for the application, as well as the letter from his teacher:
Max Essay One:
Here are some things you should know about me: I like to read, play baseball, listen to the news and cook. My favorite books are Harry Potter and The Longest Day. I am going to go to this camp to improve m reading and writing. I like to read because the stories are very interesting and you can do it to take your mind off of things. I like to write because you can make your own adventure stories. When I get home from school I like to play with my friend Jay and read. A little bit more about me is I am a big traveler! I have already been to Britain, France, Germany and 16 U.S. states. I would like to go to Hawaii and Mexico.
Max Essay Two:
I might learn to read different kinds of books. I want to go to this camp so I can write longer and more detailed stories. When I finish the camp I want to write chapter books. I also want to be able to share ideas with my peers and teachers. I like to write because it is like being able to make your own world. I also like it because you can control what the characters do and feel like. I will also get to see professional writing teachers.
From the teacher:
Maxton Bryan has been in my 3rd grade class since September 2018. He is also a GIA student who works with our Gifted teacher one day a week. According to the Fountas & Pinnell testing Max is reading at least two years above grade level. He is very inquisitive and always wants to know more information. Max loves to read especially books related to history. Max's love for learning inspires him to do research to find answers to some of his questions. He often will ask me questions about topics he is reading independently. I have encouraged him to try to find the answers himself by either reading more on the subject from another book or going to the internet to find the answers. He is passionate about sharing the things he is learning; he shares information with me on a regular basis. Max has strong social skills as well as academic skills. He is a well rounded student and has strong friendships with the students in my class. I highly recommend him for the course "Being a Reader, Becoming a Writer."

Magic Morning
After a last look at the ostriches from our balcony and a breakfast treat of Mickey pancakes, we headed BACK to the Magic Kingdom for our final morning. Max got to ride Big Thunder Mountain AND Space Mountain, while Evelyn repeated Dumbo, watched a parade, and enjoyed a Dole Whip treat. They both thought the Haunted Mansion was silly, with Evelyn asking why anyone would be dumb enough to buy a haunted house and actually live in it. Fair point, my logical child.
We took a tour around Tom Sawyer Island on our way out of the park. Then it was back to the hotel for a quick swim before showering off and heading to the airport. What a whirlwind adventure!
